The Lokoja Electoral Court has ordered the re-run of the Senate elections for Kogi East Senatorial District.

New elections will be held between All Progressive Congress (APC) Sen Jibrin Isah Echocho, and Dr Victor Alewo Adoji of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

This follows the sacking of Echocho, who was declared winner of the February 25 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The court called for re-elections at 94 polling stations, which together account for more than 70,000 votes.

According to the court, it decided after a thorough examination of complaints by Adoji citing irregularities in his first election.

The court ruled that re-election was expected to provide an opportunity to fairly and transparently resolve election disputes between the two candidates.
