Tribunal Sacks Fred Agbedi, Orders Rerun in Sagbama/Ekeremor Constituency

The Election Tribunal in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has ordered a rerun of the Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency.

This is as it sacked Hon Fred Agbedi, who was declared winner of the February 25 poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The tribunal also instructed INEC to revoke Agbedi’s certificate and conduct a new election for the 26,000 voters who were unlawfully excluded.

The petitioner, Michael Bless Olomu of the All Progressive Congress (APC), claimed that he should be declared the rightful winner due to the violence that occurred during the election.

Olomu alleged that the opposition’s actions affected five wards where elections were not held but results were still compiled.

According to tribunal, its decision aimed to rectify the situation and ensure a fair and just outcome for all parties involved.

He said:

That the violence that ensued in ward five (5) Ebedebiri, Ward eleven (11) three (3) and four (4) Ofoni Sagbama Local Government Area; and Ward Twelve (12) in the Ekeremor Local Government Area, actually affected the outcomes of the election in these areas and results generated were forged and as such unacceptable.”
