The Nigerian military has made a significant breakthrough in its ongoing nationwide operations, arresting one of the most notorious terrorists who had been on its watch list for months. The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Wakili, was picked up on November 9, 2025, during a raid in Ungwan Gora, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Maj.-Gen. Olakunbo Bello, the new Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the development in a statement on Friday. According to him, Wakili was found with arms and ammunition, all of which have been recovered. The suspect is now undergoing interrogation as investigations continue.

Across the country, troops arrested 90 suspects linked to terrorism and other criminal activities during operations conducted between November 3 and November 14. The breakdown showed 45 arrests in the North East, two in the North West, 30 in the North Central, nine in the South South and seven in the South East.

Troops also rescued 53 kidnapped victims, while several terrorists were neutralised during engagements in multiple states. In the Niger Delta, security forces prevented over N15 million worth of oil theft, recovering 12,600 litres of stolen crude oil and 3,287 litres of illegally refined AGO. They also destroyed illegal refining equipment, including crude oil cooking ovens, dugout pits, boats and storage tanks.

Bello noted that a wide range of weapons was seized, including automatic rifles, RPG tubes, machine guns, locally made firearms, IED-making materials and large quantities of ammunition.

The operations stretched across several hot zones in the North East, including Monguno, Gwoza, Bama, Damboa, Chibok and Biu in Borno State, as well as locations in Adamawa State. In the North West, troops stormed terrorist hideouts in Sokoto and Zamfara, while operations in Niger, Katsina, Kebbi and Kano States disrupted criminal movements.

In the North Central, troops hit multiple locations across Plateau, Kaduna, Kogi, Kwara, Benue and Nasarawa States, flushing out terrorists and dismantling their networks. Similar raids were carried out in states like Taraba, ensuring pressure remains on criminal groups across the region.

The Defence Headquarters said the operations are ongoing and would intensify as troops continue their aggressive push to restore peace and stability across the country.
