Troops from Operation Sanity of the Nigerian Army have successfully eliminated four bandits in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The elimination was made known by Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, on Tuesday.

According to Aruwan, the troops encountered the bandits in the Alawa and Kwaga regions of Birnin Gwari, engaging them in a fierce gunfight that resulted in the elimination of two criminals.

During the operation, the troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, three motorcycles, and a Baofeng Radio from the bandits.

In addition, 13 hostages were rescued from a kidnappers’ hideout in the Kachia Local Government Area.

Aruwan explained that the rescue mission was initiated based on credible intelligence indicating that bandits were moving kidnapped victims into the area.

The troops swiftly engaged the bandits in a shoot-out, compelling them to abandon their captives.

In a related operation, troops from Sector 6 of Operation Whirl Punch, conducting patrols around Nakwakina village in Giwa Local Government Area, neutralised two bandits who had been terrorising local residents.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops laid an ambush along a suspected terrorist route, resulting in a gun battle that left two bandits dead, while others escaped with injuries.

In another mission, troops from Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Punch, deployed along Kwaga-Polewire Road in Birnin-Gwari, responded to a distress call and intercepted bandits who had kidnapped locals near Polewire village. Upon sighting the troops, the bandits fled, abandoning 20 kidnapped victims.

The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families. Governor Uba Sani has commended the military, led by Maj Gen Mayirenso Saraso, General Officer Commanding the One Mechanized Division, for their notable successes and the rescue of kidnapped victims in the Birnin-Gwari area.

The governor urged the troops to maintain their momentum against bandits and insurgents in Kaduna State and surrounding regions.
