Troops of the Nigerian Army have thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued a couple who came under attack by suspected bandits near Zuma Rock in Niger State.
The incident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, in the area behind Zuma Rock, close to Chachi Village in Tafa Local Government Area.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared details of the operation in a post on Thursday via X, noting that troops responded swiftly after gunshots were reported in the area.
“On arrival, they found a black 2008 Honda Accord with registration number KUR 395 AA abandoned in a pit. The car had bullet holes on its front doors.
The army engaged the attackers in a shootout, successfully preventing the kidnapping and rescuing the vehicle’s occupants,” Makama wrote.
The victims were identified as Samson Audu from Bakusa, Dei-Dei, and his girlfriend, Joy Bassy. Both sustained injuries during the attack — Audu was shot in the right hand, while Bassy suffered a head injury.
They were promptly taken to Right Care Hospital in Dakwa, where they are currently receiving treatment and are reportedly responding well.
