Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have uncovered a mass grave of terrorists in the Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State, further confirming the growing losses suffered by insurgent groups amid sustained military offensives in the region.

The discovery was confirmed on Wednesday by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, who said the grave contained the remains of about 20 terrorists killed during recent encounters with Nigerian troops.

According to the military, the terrorists were neutralised during intense operations across the Timbuktu Triangle and were later buried by their fleeing collaborators in a bid to conceal their losses.

Lt.-Col. Uba noted that the discovery clearly contradicts the propaganda often circulated by terrorist groups to downplay the impact of military actions against them.

“The discovery of mass graves containing an estimated 20 terrorist bodies killed during encounters with troops in the Timbuktu Triangle further exposes the scale of casualties suffered by the terrorists and discredits their propaganda narratives,” he said.

The army spokesman added that troops have recorded major operational successes in the ongoing clearance exercise, with several notorious terrorist hideouts dismantled.

He listed Tergejeri, Chiralia, and the Ajigin/Abirma general areas among locations successfully cleared and now placed under effective military control.

Uba explained that during the operations, troops made repeated contact with fleeing terrorist elements, engaging them with superior firepower and forcing them to abandon their positions.
