A cement-laden truck on Monday lost control and crushed a traffic officer alongside two commercial motorcyclists at Badagry Roundabout in Lagos State.

The victims included an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) who was on duty and two riders reportedly waiting to pick up passengers at about 9:45 a.m.

Eyewitnesses said the truck veered off course while approaching the busy junction, ramming into the victims and causing panic in the area.

An official of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps said the driver attempted to manoeuvre the vehicle to minimise casualties but could not prevent the fatal impact.

Confirming the incident, the Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Yusuf Sanni, disclosed that the driver had been arrested and taken to Badagry Police Station.

He attributed the crash to loss of control and advised motorists to avoid the area while authorities handled the situation.

The remains of the deceased were deposited at a hospital mortuary, while the truck was impounded at the police station.

The Divisional Police Officer of Badagry Police Station, CSP Folajimi Agosile, also confirmed the detention of the driver, stating that he would be arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court after investigations are concluded.

Officials of the FRSC, LASTMA, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigeria Police Force were seen at the scene managing traffic and clearing the expressway following the tragic incident.
