Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said she was taken aback by the public recognition she received from United States President Donald Trump, describing the moment as unexpected and deeply symbolic.

“Who would have thought that President Trump would recognise me?” she said. “I am getting global recognition from all of this, and that is what life is about. If something is going to be good, it often starts from the rubbles.”

Her comments came after President Trump acknowledged her presence at the high-profile interfaith gathering, publicly recognising her as a respected leader and a prominent figure within Nigeria’s Christian community.

The National Prayer Breakfast is an annual event that brings together political leaders, lawmakers, religious figures and invited international guests to reflect on faith, leadership and global cooperation.

Over the years, it has also served as a platform for diplomatic engagement and symbolic recognition of visiting foreign dignitaries.

Mrs Tinubu’s appearance and subsequent recognition are being viewed by observers as part of Nigeria’s broader soft diplomacy efforts, highlighting the country’s leadership on the global stage beyond formal political engagements.

The First Lady’s visit has continued to attract attention both at home and abroad, reinforcing Nigeria’s visibility within international faith-based and political circles.
