Tyla’s victory marks a significant moment for South African music on the global stage, as she becomes one of the few non-Nigerian artists to claim the Afrobeats category.

Billie Eilish emerged as the evening’s biggest winner, sweeping all seven categories she was nominated for. Her accolades included Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for Hit Me Hard and Soft, and Song of the Year for Birds of a Feather.
In the country music scene, Beyoncé continued to expand her genre dominance, taking home Favourite Female Country Artist and Favourite Country Album for Cowboy Carter. Post Malone was also recognized, winning Favourite Male Country Artist.
Meanwhile, fan favourites Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande went home without any wins, despite receiving multiple nominations.

Nigerian musician and activist Seun Kuti has criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for focusing more on arresting internet fraudsters, popularly known as “Yahoo boys,” rather than tackling corruption among the country’s political elite.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Seun claimed that the EFCC’s priorities are shaped by financial pressure from the American government, which he alleged funds the agency’s cybercrime efforts.
