UEFA Champions League quarter-finals results: Madrid, Bayern out
-
Arsenal, Inter join Barcelona, PSG in last four.
UEFA Champions League quarter-finals ended on Wednesday night with surprising results against the expectations of many football fans.
Defending champions knocked out
Most surprising among which is 15-time winners, Real Madrid, getting dumped out of the tournament by Arsenal, who secured home and away victories over the Los Blancos.
The Gunners, obvious underdogs in the tie, held on to their 3-0 home victory and soaked in all pressure from a disoriented Carlo Ancelotti team.

Mikel Arteta’s men had the chance to extend their lead in the 13th minute when the English side were awarded a penalty following an infringement from a corner kick.

However, Thibout Courtouis guessed right and saved Bukayo Saka’s spot kick to give Madrid some hope of a comeback.
Madrid had their own penalty overturned after Kylian Mbappe was ruled to be in an offside position when the call was made, as the first half ended without a goal.
Arsenal drew first blood on the 65th minute when Saka redeemed his earlier miss with a chip above an unrushing Courtouis following a through ball from Mikel Merino.

Vinicius Jr. drew level just two minutes after when he pounced on a mistake from Williams Saliba to equalize into an empty net.
However, Gabriel Martinelli put the final nail on the defending champions with a last-minute goal from a solo run to condemn Madrid to a 5-1 aggregate defeat.
Arsenal are through to the semi-finals for the first time since 2009 and will face Paris Saint-German in another test of strength encounter for Arteta’s side.
Inter Out-Muscle Bayern
In Italy, Inter Milan saw off competition from Bayern Munich to force their way into another semi-final clash with Barcelona.
The Nerazurri, 2-1 winners from the first leg in Germany, held Bayern to a 2-2 after surviving a scare.
Harry Kane put Bayern in front on the 52nd minute following a scoreless first first half, but Lautaro Martinez restored Inter’s advantage on the 58th minute before Benjamin Pavad took things out of reach on the 61st minute.
Bayern continued their fight back with their own equalizer from Eric Dier in the 76th minute, but falling to defeat at home in the first leg was enough to see them out of Europe’s premier football competition.
Inter will now take on Barcelona in what will be a repeat of the 2010 semi-final.
