A 400 level student of the University of Illorin, UNILORIN, has been arrested for allegedly beating a female lecturer to a state of coma.

The student identified as Salaudeen Waliyu popularly known as Captain Walz, of the Department of Microbiology, reportedly beat up a female lecturer, Mrs. Zakaria.

According to reports, Captain Walz had didn’t observe the compulsory Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), and sought the help of Mrs. Zakaria, who is said to be his project supervisor, over his failure to do his SIWES, but she refused.

Following the refusal, Walz became furious and assaulted Mrs. Zakariya inflicting severe injuries on her. It was gathered that the lecturer, in a bid to escape the assault, ran into an office, but Captain Walz broke the window and continued assaulting her.

“In an attempt to escape, the lecturer fell, sustained a head cut, and was strangled by the student till she fell into coma,” a source said.

The incident, which reportedly happened on Thursday, November 11, and videos of how the student attacked the lecturer and his arrest made rounds online at the weekend.

Confirming the incident’s development to Daily Trust, the Director of Corporate Affairs of the institution, Mr. Kunle Akogun on Saturday night said;

“Yes, the incident is true but the lecturer is now in a stable condition. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Abdulkareem Age visited her in the company of some Deans and other university staff. They further described the incident as unfortunate and sad and assured justice will be done on the matter. He ordered proper care of the victim on the bill of the university,” Akogun said.
