United States Warns of Killings, if Russia Invade Ukraine

united states

The Government of United States has advised the UN that it has accurate information about possible killings and human violations if Russia invades Ukraine.

Bathsheba Crocker, the United States’ ambassador to the United Nations, wrote to Michelle Bachelet, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, outlining details of “disturbing information.”

“We are deeply concerned about Russia’s ongoing human rights violations in the areas of Ukraine that it already occupies, and we have every reason to believe that those concerns will grow as a result of a new military offensive,” Crocker wrote in the letter.

According to the letter, Russia is planning targeted killings, kidnappings, unjust detention, and the use of torture against those who oppose Russian actions, including Russian and Belarusian dissidents in exile in the Ukraine.

“Specifically, we have credible information indicating that Russian forces are compiling lists of identified Ukrainians to be killed or detained following a military occupation,” she said.

The US has also warned that it believes Russian forces will use lethal force to disperse peaceful protests or to counter peaceful exercises of perceived civilian resistance.

The United States did not reveal the sources of the information.

Despite the fact that Russia has amassed around 150,000 troops along the country’s borders, according to Western intelligence, Russia has repeatedly denied plans to invade Ukrainian territory.
