Group says the government ignored credible intelligence despite soldiers stationed near the attack scene.
A United States,US-based advocacy organisation, Truth Nigeria, has accused the Nigerian government of ignoring multiple security alerts before the June 13, 2025 terrorist attack that left nearly 300 people dead in Yelwata village, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The group’s founder, Judd Saul, said in a video obtained by Sahara Reporters that his organisation notified the authorities weeks before the massacre, warning of an imminent assault by armed extremists targeting Christian communities.

Saul alleged that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration and security forces failed to act despite repeated warnings, allowing the attackers—believed to be armed herdsmen—to invade the community, burn homes, and slaughter residents.
“Now, when we get a terror alert, we issue it publicly on our website and immediately call the Nigerian military, DSS, and local authorities,” Saul said. “A day before the attack, we told them movement was happening. What happened? Absolutely nothing.”

According to him, Truth Nigeria received intelligence about the planned attack nearly three weeks before it happened and promptly alerted the Army, Police, and DSS, but no preventive action was taken.
Saul further claimed that while the massacre was ongoing, soldiers stationed less than a kilometre away fired warning shots but refused to engage the terrorists, allowing them to continue killing and burning victims.
“The government stood by and did nothing despite multiple advance warnings. People were burnt alive, hacked with machetes, and slaughtered while security forces watched,” he alleged.
The filmmaker and evangelist accused Nigerian authorities of deliberately manipulating media narratives to downplay religious persecution in the country, saying most violent incidents are underreported because they are not acknowledged officially.
“If the Nigerian government does not call for a press conference, the event does not exist,” he said.
Saul explained that Truth Nigeria was established to expose the realities of ongoing attacks against Christians across the country, documenting the killings with verifiable evidence to ensure global awareness.
“Since Yelwata, over 500 Christians have been killed in Kaduna, Plateau, and Benue States. Yet, the world knows little because the media isn’t reporting it,” he said.
The Yelwata massacre which claimed the lives of hundreds of residents, remains one of the deadliest attacks in Benue this year. Survivors said the assailants launched the assault late at night, torching homes and cutting down families who tried to flee.
Truth Nigeria has since renewed its call for international intervention and accountability, urging world leaders to demand answers from the Nigerian government over its alleged failure to prevent recurring attacks on Christian communities.
