US Orders Deployment of 7,000 Troops to Europe

US Secretary of Defense has ordered the deployment of 7,000 US service members to Europe, a senior defense official told reporters shortly after US President Joe Biden announced strong sanctions on Russia attack on Ukraine.

Biden announced that he had authorized the “deployment of ground and air forces already stationed in Europe” to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania. He also stated that he had authorized the deployment of “additional US force capabilities” to Germany as part of NATO’s response, including some forces that had been on standby for several weeks.

“This would consist of an armored brigade combat team, as well as associated capabilities and enablers.”

They will deploy to Germany to reassure NATO allies, deter Russian aggression, and support a variety of regional requirements. “We expect them to leave in the coming days,” said the official.

Biden stated at the White House that US forces “are not and will not be engaged in a conflict with Russia in Ukraine.”

“Our forces are going to Europe not to fight in Ukraine, but to defend our NATO allies and reassure our eastern allies.” “He continued.

Biden also claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin is estranged from the rest of the world and wishes to resurrect the former Soviet Union.

“He has far broader ambitions than Ukraine.

In fact, want to reestablish the former Soviet Union. That is the point of this. And I believe his ambitions are diametrically opposed to where the rest of the world has arrived.”
