The EFCC claims Otse refused to honor several invitations despite being sent to his known addresses and communication channels.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, over “grave allegations of financial malfeasance.” According to the EFCC, Otse was invited for questioning in connection with a series of petitions received by the commission, all bordering on alleged financial crimes.
The EFCC claims that despite sending several invitations to Otse’s known addresses and communication channels, he refused to honor them. “He refused to show up in spite of several invitations sent to him,” the commission stated. In response to public scrutiny, the EFCC urged Nigerians to refrain from speculating about its motives and allow it to carry out its constitutional duties.
“The EFCC should be allowed to do its job without fear or favor,” the statement read, assuring that “as soon as investigations are concluded, charges will be filed.”

The commission also clarified that Otse’s arrest was not motivated by his public criticisms of the EFCC, but rather by the allegations of financial malfeasance.
A valid remand order was obtained to keep Otse in custody while investigations continue, and he has been offered administrative bail, which he can secure his freedom by meeting the bail conditions.
