Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, a prominent Nigerian social media influencer, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.
The arrest reportedly followed a complaint by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), after VeryDarkMan publicly alleged that the bank made unauthorized deductions from his mother’s account under the guise of loan repayments.
His lawyer, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest to SaharaReporters on Friday, stating that Otse was picked up by officers at Area 3 in Abuja.

Adeyanju said, “My client, VeryDarkMan, was arrested today in Abuja by the Nigerian police. His only offence was speaking out about suspicious and repeated debits from his mother’s GTBank account for loans she never took.”
The influencer had earlier taken to his social media platforms to express frustration over what he described as ongoing, unexplained charges debited from his mother’s GTBank account.
In a post that quickly went viral, he disclosed that he and his mother had gone to a GTBank branch in Abuja to get clarity and request her account statement.
“Myself and my mom just arrived at GTBank to get an explanation for the constant debit from her account by GTBank in the name of loan repayments that she never took. In this year alone, see the amount of times she has been debited with different amounts,” he wrote.
He continued, “We have requested her bank statements so we know when the debiting started. So far, in this year alone, there have been more than seven debits on loan repayments. GTBank staff are cooperating—hopefully, we’ll know why they keep doing this.”
The incident has sparked widespread conversation online, with many questioning the legality of the arrest and calling for transparency from financial institutions.
