Controversial Nigerian social media commentator, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, was on Thursday re-arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja on fresh cyberbullying charges filed by the police.
The charges, centred around alleged online harassment, include claims that he targeted Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh, as well as music producer Samuel Oguachuba, widely known as Samklef.
Appearing before Justice Musa Liman, Otse pleaded not guilty to all five counts contained in the amended charge sheet.

This development follows an earlier arraignment held on May 22, 2024, before Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon. The case was reassigned after Justice Olajuwon was moved to another division of the Federal High Court. The case is registered under number FHC/ABJ/CR/140/2024 and was originally filed on March 28, 2024.
The charges stem from alleged violations of Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, which addresses online harassment and cyberstalking.
Otse was initially remanded in custody but later granted bail on June 10, 2024. The bail conditions included a ₦10 million bond and two sureties—either senior civil servants at Grade Level 17 or employees of recognised companies—along with evidence of three years of tax compliance.
According to the prosecution, the first count relates to a video posted on October 13, 2023, in which Otse allegedly made threatening and harassing statements directed at Samklef via his Instagram page, @verydarkblackman.
In the second charge, dated around October 29, 2023, he is accused of sharing content described as offensive and inappropriate, allegedly aimed at Iyabo Ojo. In the video, he reportedly claimed that “one Iyabo Ojo is having an indecent sexual relationship with her daughter.”
The third count involves a statement posted on January 19, 2024, where Otse is said to have falsely alleged that Tonto Dikeh was involved in mismanaging funds raised during the Justice for Mohbad campaign and also accused her of being behind the controversial Gistlover blog.
The fourth count accuses him of making disrespectful and inflammatory remarks on March 19, 2024, in videos targeting Deputy Inspectors General of Police and lawmakers in the National Assembly.
Following Thursday’s proceedings, Otse’s legal representative, Deji Adeyanju, requested that his client be allowed to continue under the bail terms previously approved by Justice Olajuwon. Prosecuting counsel Victor Okoye did not contest the application.
Justice Liman agreed to maintain the existing bail arrangement and adjourned the case until July 24, 2025, for the commencement of trial.
