Activist and social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, has explained why he is refusing to comply with an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding allegations of corruption involving officials of the agency.

This situation arose after VeryDarkMan shared a video featuring an audio recording allegedly belonging to social media personality Bobrisky. In the recording, Bobrisky claimed that he was asked to pay N15 million to have a money laundering charge against him dropped.

In response, the EFCC issued a letter inviting both VeryDarkMan and Bobrisky to its Lagos office to assist in the investigation of the alleged bribery. However, on Wednesday, VeryDarkMan publicly declined the invitation, citing concerns about traveling to Lagos, as he does not live there and is uncertain about his safety if he goes. He instead suggested that the EFCC should invite him and Bobrisky to their Abuja office, where the agency’s headquarters are located.

VeryDarkMan also accused the EFCC of failing to ensure that Bobrisky was properly committed to and remained in prison. He argued that the EFCC should first conduct a thorough investigation of their officers involved in Bobrisky’s case before summoning him.

He stated, “Before you invite someone like me, do a deep investigation on your officers first. When you get the result from your officers who handled Bobrisky’s file, then you can invite me. You are telling me to come to Lagos, but the EFCC headquarters is in Abuja; it makes no sense. Invite Bobrisky to Abuja and do your investigation there.”

He further explained that his refusal to travel to Lagos is also due to a lack of trust in the EFCC and the potential risk of being framed. “I don’t have N15 million to pay for anything. I don’t have any godfathers, and I don’t want to be framed. I don’t trust you, and I won’t go to Lagos,” he concluded.

Bobrisky, meanwhile, has denied paying any such bribe and dismissed the audio recording as fake.
