Renowned Nigerian broadcaster, diplomat, and corporate leader, Dr. Christopher Kolade, has passed away at the age of 93.

The respected statesman, celebrated for his outstanding contributions to broadcasting, corporate governance, and leadership, died peacefully on Thursday, leaving behind a lasting legacy of integrity and service.

Born in 1932 in Erin-Oke, Osun State, Dr. Kolade was the son of an Anglican missionary. He attended Government College, Ibadan, before proceeding to Fourah Bay College, Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he earned his degree.

Kolade’s professional journey began in broadcasting, where his passion for media and communication led him to rise through the ranks and become the Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). His leadership helped shape the early structure of radio and television in Nigeria.

After an accomplished media career, Dr. Kolade transitioned into the corporate world, joining Cadbury Nigeria Plc, where he served as both Chief Executive and later Chairman. Under his guidance, Cadbury became a household name, known not just for its products but also for its commitment to integrity and corporate responsibility.

His diplomatic career saw him appointed as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, a role he carried out with excellence and grace. Before independence, he also served as an Education Officer, reflecting his lifelong dedication to national service.

In academia, Dr. Kolade was deeply involved with Pan-Atlantic University, where he taught courses in Corporate Governance, Human Resources Management, and Leadership. He was a former Governing Council member, later becoming Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, and also served as Chancellor of McPherson University in Ogun State.

Beyond education and diplomacy, Kolade was a strong advocate for integrity in business. He chaired the Integrity Organisation Limited GTE and The Convention on Business Integrity Limited GTE, two institutions that promote transparency and ethical conduct in Nigeria’s private sector.

Dr. Kolade’s life was one of service, discipline, and influence. His legacy continues to inspire generations of professionals in broadcasting, education, and corporate leadership.
