Nigerian musician Anthony Ebuka Victor, known as Victony, recently shared his rap inspirations in an interview with Sway Universe. The artist, who began his career in rap before exploring other genres, cited influential figures like Kendrick Lamar, Drake, J. Cole, and Meek Mill as key influences. He also mentioned Nigerian artists MI Abaga, Odumodublvck, and Shallipopi.

Victony expressed his admiration for Kendrick Lamar’s artistry, noting, “Kendrick is not just about his lyrics but also his visual presentation. His work made me a dedicated fan.” He also praised Drake for his versatility and his role in popularizing Afrobeats in the U.S., and mentioned his respect for J. Cole and Meek Mill.

Reflecting on Nigerian rap, Victony credited MI Abaga for paving the way for success in the genre within Nigeria. He also highlighted the growing prominence of rappers like Odumodublvck and Shallipopi. “Rap is gaining traction in Nigeria,” he said, “and I sometimes blend it with Afrobeats.”

Victony hopes his success will inspire other Nigerian youth, saying, “I’m doing this for Doyin and the kids in Ojo. I want them to see me and believe they can achieve their dreams.”
