Milan pulled out after he failed a medical, ending the proposed deal, reportedly a €5 million loan with a €24 million buy option from Bayer Leverkusen.
The 24-year-old flew to Milan to finish the move, but club doctors flagged doubts about his knee recovery.
As a result, Milan withdrew and Boniface’s camp scrambled to regroup.
Social media erupted in Nigeria. Some users blamed the player’s public activity and said he should focus on football.
Boniface hit back, calling critics “clowns,” and warned people not to overread the chatter.
When Fabrizio Romano implied the “clowns everywhere” line referred to the failed transfer, Boniface messaged him to correct the record.
He wrote:
“Don’t make this a big issue. This is about some Nigerian media. This has nothing to do with my transfer ok. You have to delete that statement. This has nothing to do with Milan or Leverkusen.”
He asked Romano to remove the post to avoid further misunderstanding.
Beyond the medical setback, the episode shows how quickly transfer news and online commentary can collide.
