Nollywood actress Adunni Ade recently opened up about her struggles with speaking Yoruba, citing it as a draining experience that occasionally frays her nerves.
During a recent appearance on the Channels Television program, Morning Brief, the talented actress, born to a German-American mother and a Nigerian father of Yoruba descent, expressed a preference for English, Nigeria’s lingua franca. She emphasized the importance of prioritizing English over other languages.
“Speaking Yoruba is draining, sometimes it hurts my nerves,” Adunni remarked candidly. “The first language that we know in Nigeria is English. Let’s put all the other languages aside.”

Despite her difficulties with the language, Adunni Ade expressed gratitude to her father for immersing her in Nigerian culture and language by bringing her to Nigeria to learn everything about her Nigerian heritage.
