Why Channel TV’s Politics Today Was Suspended
The National Broadcasting Commission on Monday inflicted a suspension on Channels TV’s program, Politics Today over an alleged breaching of the broadcast code.
In a move that has since been greeted with outrage from Nigerians, the NBC also slammed a N5 million fine against the news agency for granting an interview to outlawed group, IPOB.
Channels TV had interviewed the spokesperson for the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB), Emma Powerful, wherein he allegedly made derogatory comments against the Nigerian state.

Confirming the suspension and fine, Acting Director-General of NCC, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba emphasized that the IPOB leader made several secessionist and inciting declarations on air without caution or reprimand by Channels TV or the anchor for Politics Today, Seun Okinbaloye.
Prof Idachaba stated the interview was a clear violation of Section 3.11.1(b) and 5.4.3 as provided by the Nigerian Broadcasting Code.
