Varandas told Fabrizio Romano:
“If they won’t meet Viktor’s fair market value, we’re perfectly comfortable holding onto him for the next three years,”
“This stance also complicates any departure for the player. Nobody is above the interests of the club.”
Meanwhile, Sporting are preparing to fine Gyökeres for his no-show and may demand a formal apology.
Despite the tension, Varandas expects the situation to be resolved before the transfer window closes and he’s made it clear that Sporting won’t lower their valuation for one of their top performers.
Gyökeres enjoyed a standout 2023/24 campaign, making him a prime target this summer.
Yet unless Arsenal match Sporting’s terms, the Sweden international looks set to remain in Lisbon.
