The Volleyball Premier League sits at the centre of Nigeria’s domestic game and it feeds players into the national teams.

To enhance player welfare and sharpen club competition nationwide, N24 million is allocated for the first phase and another N24 million for the last.

Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi announced the cash at a press briefing; Samuel Onikeku spoke on his behalf.

The statement says the team subsidy rose and player payouts increased to make the league more competitive and sustainable. “The team subsidy has been increased from N300,000 to N500,000 per team.

Each player will now receive N500,000, a notable increase from the previous amount.

“The total amount for teams and players in the first phase is N24 million, and the final phase will also receive N24 million,” – he said.

Furthermore, both amateur and professional volleyball are attracting more attention from public institutions.

Consequently, organisers and the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) welcomed the commitment, adding that the money will help clubs pay staff, upgrade training and attract more young players.

Chairman of the League Management Committee, Nkechi Nzogwu lauded the CGC and expressed confidence for a brighter season.

“We sincerely appreciate the Comptroller-General of Customs for sustaining his sponsorship. He supported us last year and has repeated it this year to put smiles on the faces of our players,” – Nzogwu said.

Growing depth was demonstrated by last year’s results, which showed Chief of Naval Staff Spikers at the top of the men’s table and Nigeria Customs Service winning the women’s title.

Offa VC and Kada Kings also finished among the leaders, underlining regional strength.

Abuja will host the two-week tournament at the Indoor Hall, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, starting today and ending on Oct. 2.

Fans should expect quick, physical matches as fresh challengers test the defending champions in the 2025 Volleyball Premier League.
