The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that withheld results of West African Senior School Certificate Examination 2020 and 2021 candidates will be released immediately.

WAEC stated in a communique issued at the conclusion of the 72nd meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee that only results of candidates exonerated of exam malpractices would be released.

The examination body also authorized the cancellation of results for candidates who were found to be involved in cases of malpractice.

“At the 72nd Meeting, the Committee received reports on irregularity, special, and clemency cases arising from the conduct of WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2020,” according to a communique signed by WAEC’s Acting Head, Moyosola Adeyegbe, on behalf of the Head of National Office.

“In the course of considering the various reported cases of malpractice, the committee, after diligent deliberation, approved appropriate sanctions in all established cases of malpractice, as prescribed by the Rules and Regulations governing the conduct of the Council’s examinations.”

It authorized the cancellation of the entire results of candidates proven to have been involved in malpractice cases resulting in the penalty of Cancellation of Entire Results (CER), as well as the cancellation of the subject results of candidates proven to have been involved in malpractice cases resulting in the penalty of Cancellation of Subject Results (CSR).

“Furthermore, some candidates will face additional sanctions, such as a two-year ban from sitting for the Council’s examinations.”

Some schools will be de-recognized for a set number of years or have their recognition revoked entirely.

Some Supervisors who were found wanting in the performance of their examination duties will be formally reported to their employers and blacklisted, while some invigilators will be reported to the appropriate authorities for disciplinary action.

“The Committee’s resolutions will be implemented without delay, and the affected candidates and schools will be duly informed by the council.”

The results of candidates who were exonerated by the Committee, on the other hand, will be released without further delay.”
