WAFCON : Ihezuo’s Late Strike Sends Super Falcons to Quarterfinals

  • Ihezuo’s 88th-minute goal sealed Nigeria’s 1–0 WAFCON win over Botswana.

  • The Super Falcons now have six points and a quarterfinal spot.

  • They clash with Algeria next in their lastl group match.

Chinwendu Ihezuo came off the bench to fire home in the 88th minute against Botswana, sealing Nigeria’s 1–0 WAFCON quarterfinal spot.

The Super Falcons now top their group with six points and look poised to claim a 10th title.

Coach Justin Madugu stuck with his Tunisia-winning lineup but introduced Esther Okoronkwo and Ihezuo early in the second half to spark the attack.

WAFCON : Ihezuo’s Late Strike Sends Super Falcons to Quarterfinals

 

Ihezuo repaid his faith with her second goal of the tournament.

Okoronkwo and Ashleigh Plumptre also tested Botswana’s keeper, who made crucial saves until Ihezuo broke the deadlock.

Riding high on confidence, the nine-time champions shift focus to Sunday’s final group match against Algeria.

A win there will solidify their status as favourites to lift the WAFCON trophy.
