Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye has explained Why he signed for Watford ahead of Burnley, Southampton and Crystal Palace.

The 22-year-old disclosed he had received offers not only from Burnley but also from the Saints as well as from Patrick Vieira’s side before he made up his mind to join the Yellow Army.

The three clubs among several others have been said to have contacted Okoye’s management but the former Sparta Rotterdam star has chosen to seal a move to Claudio Ranieri’s side.

Okoye said he was persuaded by the club’s owner Gino Pozzo who uncovered the trust he had in him as number one for the Premier League and the Championship.”

Okoye disclosed this via an interview with Transfer market.

The Nigerian international who penned down a five-year contract will therefore join the Golden Boys in the 2022-2023 season.

Okoye said: “My management had been in contact with several clubs since the beginning of this year.”

“Southampton, Burnley and Crystal Palace were also after me and were in talks with my management. But when you get an offer like Watford’ s, you just have to do it.”

“Watford convinced me with club boss Gino Pozzo: the talks and the trust they have in me as number one for the Premier League and the Championship.”

Gernot Rohr’s number one goalie is presently training with Super Eagles ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde.
