Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has expressed excitement over the decision of Governor Siminalayi Fubara to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling it a turning point for politics in the South-South.

Speaking in Rivers State during the inauguration of the Igwuruta–Airport Road, Keyamo said the APC did not anticipate the scale of the political win.

“We set a trap to catch a frog, but we caught an elephant in the person of Sir Siminalayi Fubara,” Keyamo declared.

The minister credited President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and reforms for making the APC more attractive across the South-South region, noting that the party now controls all six states in the zone.

“It has never been this good for the South-South. We started from zero in 2015, and today we are six over six,” he said.

Keyamo described the APC as a big family and the largest political party in Africa, adding that he was present to witness the official presentation of the APC membership card to Governor Fubara.

He further praised the Rivers governor for addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges, particularly the road linking the Port Harcourt International Airport to the city.

“That airport road was one of our biggest headaches in aviation. You have solved that problem for us,” Keyamo said.

Fubara’s defection follows similar moves by Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule and 16 lawmakers, further strengthening the APC’s foothold in the state.
