Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that his political camp will return fully to politics in January 2026, a statement that has reignited discussions around growing tension in Rivers State politics and his uneasy relationship with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Fresh signs of political disagreement appear to be emerging between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, following comments made by Wike during a meeting with supporters in Rivers State.

Although Wike did not mention names, his remarks suggested dissatisfaction with what he described as a shift from a previous political understanding reached during a recent peace effort.

Speaking in Ahoada East after an annual thanksgiving event held in honour of former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, Wike declared that he and his allies would resume active political engagement in the new year.

“By January 2026, we will start politics. An agreement is an agreement. If there is something you cannot do, do not say it,” Wike said.

He questioned the sudden rise of politicians now openly chanting pro-President Bola Tinubu slogans, asking where such voices were during the tense period of the 2023 general election.

Wike assured his supporters that there was no reason for panic, urging them to remain firm and loyal despite ongoing political noise.

“Whatever you agree to in the morning, you must stand by it in the night. Nobody can use us today and dump us tomorrow,” he added.

The former Rivers governor described himself as one of the most criticised politicians in the country, blaming the attacks on his insistence that political agreements must be honoured.

He recalled how difficult it was for many politicians to openly support President Tinubu during the 2023 election, stressing that his camp stood firm when it mattered most.

“When it was tough and nobody knew how the election would go, we took a decision and stood by it,” Wike said.

Wike assured his supporters that their sacrifices would not be forgotten, promising that the right time would come to address political developments fully.

He also dismissed claims that attacking him had become a shortcut to political or financial gain, urging his followers to remain calm and disciplined.

Earlier, Chibudom Nwuche praised Wike for his contributions to the Ekpeye Kingdom, particularly the elevation of traditional stools in the area, describing his leadership as impactful and people-focused.
