FG gives conditions to lift Twitter ban

Nigerias federal government has issued a condition Titter users must abide by have the indefinite ban it imposed on Twitter lifted.

This was disclosed by Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, during a meeting with some envoys on Monday.

Onyeama stated the operations of the microblogging platform in Nigeria will be restored only if the platform can be used “responsibly.”

The minister however, noted that there is no definite timeline for lifting the ban.

“We are not saying that Twitter is threatening the country or any such thing.

‘why we have taken this measure is to stop them to be used as platforms for destabilization and facilitation of criminality or encouragement of criminalities,” he said.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed announced the ban on Twitter from carrying out its operations in Nigeria, citing the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining the country’s corporate existence as the reason for the suspension.
