West Africa’s Defense Chiefs Unveil $2.6 Billion Plan to Boost Regional Security

West Africa’s defense chiefs have proposed a plan to deploy a 5,000-strong standby force to address the region’s escalating security challenges, including military coups and violence.

The proposal, which requires $2.6 billion in annual funding, was presented to heads of state in Abuja, Nigeria, on Thursday. The initiative aims to prevent further military takeovers and restore democratic governance in affected states.
