22nd of Sep, had handed Man Utd to a disappointing beating from Premier League Rival, Westham Utd in the EFL Cup, Round 3, at Old Trafford.

Manuel Lanzini gave Westham the victory with his goal from Ryan Frederick’s cut-back in the 9th minute

It was the first Old Trafford triumph for the Hammers since Carlos Tevez’s matchwinner in 2007 kept them in the Premier League.

The game which ended 0-1 knocked Man Utd out of this season’s EFL Competitions as the sole goal propelled Westham to the next round of the cup competition.

The Hammers should have wrapped up their victory, but Mark Noble, Andriy Yarmolenko and Jarrod Bowen all failed to hit the target.

Likewise, Jadon Sancho, Juan Mata, Mason Greenwood and Diogo Dalot all had chances to equalise but they failed to utilize the chances.

Recall both teams had the season’s first clash on Sunday Premier league Match which saw Jesse Lingard struck the winner against the Hammers during the Injury time.

Though Man Utd claimed 3 points from the Weekend’s (1-2) win at the London Stadium, it wasn’t a knock out match, today’s revenge guaranteed Man Utd’s elimination from the tournament.

The Hammers once again took the lead in the early minutes but unlike the weekend,  there was no coming back for United.

The weekend match which was full of dramatic scenes might have resulted in a tie if Noble had scored the awarded penalty at the stoppage time.

The Hammers’s win on the 22nd had thereby earned revenge for that Sunday’s Premier League defeat against Red Devils.

However, their reward for beating United is a match with Manchester City.
