According to the singer, members of his cultural group in school used to call him “Omo Asake,” a phrase that simply meant “child of Asake.”
Over time, the nickname gradually changed as people stopped adding the first part of the name.
“People stopped adding the ‘Omo’ and just left ‘Asake.’ I thought it was cool and decided to go by it. It’s very important to me, and I’m not going to lose it. It’s what has brought me this far, and I continue to keep it that way,” he said.
The singer also revealed that the name holds special meaning because it belongs to his mother.
Asake described his mother as a deeply prayerful woman who was extremely happy when he decided to adopt her name as his stage identity.
He said the support and blessings he receives from her continue to motivate him in his music career.
The singer jokingly added that the name also attracts attention, especially from female fans.
According to him, he enjoys the reaction the name brings, noting humorously that he loves women just as much as they seem to love the name.
