SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Spokesperson of Lagos State Police Command, has explained why men of the state police command jump into a commuter vehicle when an arrest is being carried out.

This was revealed in a chat on the micro-blogging App, Twitter.

According to Hundeyin, the officers are supposed to tow the vehicle of an offender to the station but the command has no towing vehicle, hence why officers hop into the vehicle of an offender to carry out an arrest.

A Twitter user had asked the question while reacting to the video of a couple having an altercation with some officers in Lagos last Sunday, July 24.

The couple was then arraigned on Monday and remanded in Kirikiri prison.

Nigeria police is always unprofessional, why enter the vehicle, when you are suppose to tow it. Your men should avoid entering peoples vehicle. We need a complete video as it will reveal more shortcoming from your men” the Twitter user had said.

Answering the tweet, Hundeyin said;

True, we were supposed to tow the vehicle but we do not have any towing vehicle. The last time we hired a towing vehicle and put the bill on the offender, he screamed all over the place that the police extorted him.”

The officer affirmed that the police would make provisions in no time.

“I’m happy the Police Trust Fund will supply some soon,” he again said.
