The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports suggesting that some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were pressuring him to contest the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement signed by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, the claim was described as “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the development of the country.”
Olayinka said the report, circulated by an unnamed online platform, was a failed attempt to drag the minister into “unnecessary controversy.”
He stated, “As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031. Wike does not function in hiding. He does what he says and says what he does.”
Clarification on PDP Stakeholders’ Meeting

Olayinka explained that the only meeting held on August 20, 2025, involved PDP stakeholders from Southern Nigeria and had nothing to do with any plan to “push” Wike into a presidential race.
He said the meeting’s outcome was made public in a joint statement titled ‘Re: Purported Meeting of PDP Southern Zoning Consultative Summit’, signed by top PDP leaders from the South-East and South-South, including lawmakers and former party executives.
Loyalty to Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda
Olayinka reaffirmed that Wike remains committed to President Tinubu’s leadership, insisting that he will continue to support the administration’s policies in the FCT.
“He has said it clearly that from now till 2031, it is on the mandate of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that he will stand,” Olayinka stated.
He added that Wike is focused on delivering President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by driving infrastructure development to make the Federal Capital Territory one of the most competitive capitals in the world.
