Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has expressed dissatisfaction with the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
-
He stated that he preferred the outright removal of Governor Fubara.
This comes after President Bola Tinubu, citing prolonged political unrest and recent security concerns including pipeline attacks, suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all state House of Assembly members for six months.
Tinubu then appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.) as sole administrator to oversee governance in the state temporarily.
During a media parley in Abuja on Friday, Wike, who governed Rivers State from 2015 to 2023, did not mince words about his feelings.

“As a politician, I am not happy with the declaration of Emergency Rule in Rivers State. I wanted the outright removal of the governor. But for the interest of the state, the president did the right thing to prevent anarchy in the state,” he said.

“The matter is in court but people must say the truth. The governor was gone. It is not on my place to make it good for the governor. As a politician, my business is not to make him comfortable and that is why there is power plane,” Wike added, in a statement that further underlines the deepening political rift between the two.
The fallout between Wike and Fubara — once political allies — has escalated into a full-blown power struggle, involving state institutions.
The tension led to the defection of 27 lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the suspension of the Assembly, and the emergence of factional speakers.
