A group of Rivers elders and leaders, believed to be loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, visited the state House of Assembly residential quarters on Sunday.
Their visit comes a few days after Governor Siminalaye Fubara’s inspection visit to the facility to assess its condition for possible rehabilitation.
Desmond Akawor, a former PDP chairman in Rivers, led the group to determine the structural viability of the buildings, citing concerns about leakages and defects.
Akawor said:

“We got information about some leakages on some roofs and other structural defects on your residential buildings.

”We are also informed that the governor is set to intervene by breaking down some of the buildings and carrying out rehabilitation where necessary.
”For us, we will not want another structure in the state to be destroyed without replacement.”
However, Martin Amaewhule, the assembly’s factional speaker, received the group and assured that experts had confirmed the buildings’ integrity, stating they are among the best in West Africa and require no immediate rehabilitation.
The visit highlights the ongoing political crisis in Rivers, with factions supporting either the governor or the FCT minister.
