Dame Anengi Barasua, a former Vice Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, has been sworn in as the new Chairman of the Council.
Barasua’s inauguration follows the death of the former Bonny Local Government Chairman, David Irimagha, who died in September.
The new Chairman was sworn in by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Thursday, at the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt.

Performing the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Wike expressed shock over the demise of the late Council Boss, saying he was a very strong supporter of Bonny Local Government Area.
He charged the new council chairman to implement laudable projects to improve the living standard of the Bonny people and to complete the projects initiated by her predecessor.

“Go ahead, continue with the projects he started, and even initiate new ones.
“It is an opportunity for you to showcase your leadership. There is nothing stopping a woman from ascending to the highest position. You never can tell what other opportunities will come if you perform better.
“I have never heard of a political crisis in Bonny in terms of leadership, I don’t want to also hear of it. Keep the place together. Work with the leadership,” he said.
The new council chairman promised to continue in the vision of her predecessor.
