Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has reportedly rescued the erstwhile Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Joi Nunieh, as armed policemen barricaded her residence in Port Harcourt in the wee hours on Thursday.

Joi Nunieh who was billed to testify before the House Committee of the NDDC on Thursday morning was barred from leaving her residence as the armed policemen besieged her home.

The former NDDC boss had been at loggerheads with the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio over corrupt practices in the Commission under the minister’s watch.

Nunieh further accused the former Akwa Ibom governor of trying to sexually harass her in his guest house in Abuja while she was in office.

The armed security operatives reportedly arrived her residence as early as 4am and forced their way into the compound but couldn’t gain entrance into the main building were Nunieh took refuge.

When contacted, the former Acting Managing Director confirmed the presence of the armed security operatives in her premises located at 3, Owuru Creek view, off Herbert Macaulay Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, on Thursday.

Governor Wike is said to have swayed into the scene and rescued Nunieh from harms way.

Recall that the governor had warned Senator Akpabio to stay clear off Nunieh as the state would do everything possible to protect her from harm.
