Wizkid Accuses Nigeria’s Elite of Weaponizing Poverty While Targeting Davido

Afrobeats artist Ayodeji Balogun, better known as Wizkid, has made some controversial statements regarding the wealthy elite in Nigeria, claiming they have exploited poverty to create a system where the less fortunate feel compelled to “worship” them.

His remarks came amid a heated social media exchange with fellow musician Davido. The back-and-forth started on Tuesday night and continued into Wednesday, with Wizkid asserting that he is more successful and richer than Davido, despite Davido’s affluent background.

Referring to Davido as a “spoilt rich kid,” Wizkid criticized him for being “cheap” and alleged that he charges less for performances compared to other artists in the industry.

In a series of posts on his X account, Wizkid wrote, “First off, you’re not as fly as me, can’t sing or make music like me, you can’t dress, you don’t make more money than me, you don’t even got shoes like me. You don’t know yourself. You’re cheap, you pull up for less than we do! Now fck off you spoilt rich child! That’s all you are! Fck you and your dad’s money; we got ours! Every n*gga around you is broke! Your dumb *ss lawyer flies with you everywhere dressed like Basketmouth lol; our lawyers are too busy for that sh*t! You kids!”

Wizkid also challenged Davido’s self-proclaimed title of “001” in the Nigerian music scene, claiming that he surrounds himself with people who are financially struggling to maintain his status.

He wrote, “Naija is a place the rich weaponize poverty so you carry all these broke boys in real life and get them visas so they worship you and not tell you about yourself. Call you 001 you delusional f*ck, aye you idiot! The only time you’re 001 is when you’re in your house. You’re not 001 of nothing but Instagram followers! You don’t make more money than anybody in Nigeria in music! Cheap guy! Everything about you screams cheap.”
