A 45-year-old woman, Hauwa Ibrahim has been remanded in a Kano correctional center for killing her newborn grandchild.

The defendant, an inhabitant of Tugar Bala Ward of Bagwai LGA, was charged with murder and pleaded guilty.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Barrister Ahmed Muhammad told the court that the defendant murdered her grandson who is the child of her son’s second wife because the first wife was yet to bare a male child.

This, according to Muhammed, was because the suspect favours the first wife and not the second wife, Badariyya Ibrahim.
The Magistrate, Haulatu Magaji Kankarofi, adjourned the case till October 4 and ordered the remand of the defendant.
