As today marks the International Peace Day 2020, The Delta State Youth Parliament led by Rt. Hon. (Dr) George Owhoekevwo has called on youths across the State to tighten the grip on security by shaping peace.

Hon Owhoekevwo who is the Speaker of the Parliament, also commended Governor of the State, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, for strategically using his SMART AGENDA in tackling the claws of cultism, sexual and gender based violence, substance abuse, thuggery and other vices within the state in his administration.

In kicking against cultism and other social vices within the state, the initiative of the House aimed at saving Youths and Children from the claws of cultism, sexual and gender based violence, substance abuse, thuggery and other vices and achieving a safe
and secured state, enjoin other peace initiatives within the state by mobilizing youths for shaping peace together in nation-building, growth and development.

The whole idea is to develop a module that will come up in various clusters aimed at mobilizing youths in Delta State towards shaping peace.

In Owhoekevwo words;
“While we are planning beyond the celebration of International Day For Peace, we are anchoring on the theme of this years celebration captioned
‘Shaping peace Together’.

“We must continue to strengthen the ideals of peace devoid of violence. We must propagate the culture of peace, putting aside cultural, religious, social and ethnic differences.”

“We need to shape peace together by spreading compassion, kindness and hope to our fellow youths which they in turn will radiate to the human society thus achieving state-building
and development even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Youth Parliament further poured encomiums on Governor Okowa over his health techniques in fighting the common unseen enemy called Coronavirus in the state.

By creating the International Day of Peace, the United Nations has devoted itself to worldwide peace by encouraging people to work in cooperation for this goal.

Since its inception, Peace Day has marked personal and planetary progresses toward peace.

It has grown to include millions of people worldwide and many events are organized each year to commemorate and celebrate this day.
