Yahaya Bello Seeks Police Action Against Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Over Defamation Claims

• Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over alleged defamatory statements made by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

• Bello’s lawyer demands that Akpoti-Uduaghan retract her accusations of assassination and corruption or face legal action.

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) seeking the prosecution of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over defamatory remarks made during a political rally.

In a petition written by his lawyer, N.A. Abubakar, Bello has requested that Akpoti-Uduaghan be invited to provide evidence to back up her accusations or face legal consequences for spreading false and harmful information.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, in her address at a rally on April 1, 2025, alleged that Bello was involved in a conspiracy to assassinate her.

She claimed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio had directed Bello to initiate her recall and even fund the plot to kill her.

Bello’s lawyer has called these statements reckless, false, and inciting, urging the police to act swiftly to prevent further damage to his client’s reputation and ensure public order is maintained.

Bello’s legal team also sent a letter demanding that Akpoti-Uduaghan issue a public retraction and apology within fourteen days.

Failure to comply would result in further civil and criminal proceedings.

The petition stresses the importance of addressing such defamatory actions to protect the integrity of public discourse and avoid destabilizing the peace.
