Nollywood actor and self-proclaimed spiritualist Yul Edochie has voiced his concerns over the rising cases of untimely deaths in Nigeria, attributing the troubling trend to the widespread rejection of traditional African beliefs in favour of Western lifestyles.
In a post shared on his Instagram page, Edochie advised Nigerians to rediscover their roots and embrace indigenous spiritual practices, which he believes offer guidance that can safeguard lives.
“Untimely death has become rampant in our society. It’s happening bcos majority of us have abandoned our traditional ways and embraced the ways of the white man,” he wrote.

Edochie emphasized that adhering to traditional spirituality equips individuals with knowledge of essential spiritual rules, which, if properly followed, could protect them from premature death.
“Go home and embrace our traditional ways. As a traditionalist, you’ll be fully enlightened on the dos and don’ts of spirituality,” he added.
He further assured that those who remain committed to these practices would be shielded from early demise. “If you keep to it judiciously, untimely death will never be your portion,” he stated.
The actor’s comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporting his call for a cultural revival and others questioning the link between tradition and mortality.
