The Deputy Governor of  Zamfara State, Mahdi Gusau, has been impeached by lawmakers at the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

Gusau was impeached during plenary on Wednesday after the House received a report of the committee set up by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kulu Aliyu, to investigate the allegations against him.

Gusau had parted ways with Governor Bello Matatwalle following his refusal to join the governor and other elected officers to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2021.

In a statement by House Standing Committee Chairman, Shamsudeen Basko,  the Assembly said the Deputy Governor was accused of abusing office, criminal self-enrichment using public funds, and failure to discharge official duties.

The seven-man investigative panel was set up by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kulu Aliyu, to investigate the allegations against him.
