The Zamfara State Police Command has apprehended several prominent individuals, including a state lawmaker and a former local government chairman, in connection with banditry activities in the state.
Commissioner of Police Muhammad Dalijan made the announcement during a meeting with Thomas Parker, the officer in charge of the Counterterrorism Unit under the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
While the names of the arrested individuals were not disclosed, CP Dalijan appealed to the UN for assistance in establishing a forensic laboratory in the state to enhance investigation capabilities.

He also requested training on investigation and forensic analysis, citing the success of similar initiatives in Maiduguri.

Dalijan revealed a notable reduction in crime rates in Zamfara due to collaborative efforts between security agencies and Community Protection Guards.
Parker, representing the UN, made known his readiness to assess the security situation and provide support to address the challenges.
The UNODC team has commenced a three-day stakeholders’ engagement to understand the scope and drivers of insecurity in Zamfara and determine how best to provide assistance.
