Zimbabwe’s head coach, Michael Nees, has given a shout-out to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for their impressive training facilities as the Warriors gear up for a vital FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles on Tuesday.
Currently sitting at the bottom of their qualification group, the Warriors are facing a tough uphill battle, especially after Nigeria recently secured a 2-0 win over Rwanda.
With the match just around the corner, Nees has shared his appreciation for the warm welcome and top-notch training environment provided by the NFF.
Michael Nees Impressed by Nigeria’s Training and Hospitality
Nees told the Warriors’ media team: “The hotel is spacious and comfortable, and we’ve settled in nicely. We did have a bit of a hiccup with our arrival due to a canceled flight, which set us back a few hours, but honestly, we can’t complain. This was the previous base for the Nigerian team before they switched to another hotel.”
On top of the accommodation, the Zimbabwean coach was particularly impressed with the quality of the training pitch, saying it’s a facility his team would love to have back home. “The playing surface is soft, not too hard, which is perfect for training. I expect the stadium pitch to be even better,” he added.
Zimbabwe Coping with Travel Fatigue Before the Big Match
Even though he’s happy with the conditions, Nees admitted that his squad is still shaking off the travel fatigue. “Our intensity isn’t quite where it needs to be yet, so we have to manage the players’ workload carefully. Traveling always takes its toll, but so far, things are looking good,” he explained.
