A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Delta State, Peter Biakpara, has distanced himself from any moves that will cause division in Burutu local government area.

The elder statesman stated this while receiving members of the Burutu Credibility Front, led by Elder Darlington Owan, at his Warri residence, last week.

He said this while reacting to calls by some quarters to zone the Burutu Federal Constituency seat ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The former Delta State Commissioner for Agriculture declared that zoning has never formed part of discussions held by the PDP in Burutu, and cannot be at this point where all energies are being channeled at the 2023 general elections.

Biakpara, who took the BCF on memory lane to recall how federal seats were allotted even before democracy, emphatically echoed that “there is no zoning” in Burutu.

“Anybody the leaders found able and capable were voted in to lead the Burutu people,” he said.

The former House of Representative member said he had refrained from joining issues with the zoning calls because the leadership of the PDP will always decide the right candidate to represent the people.

The respected chief of Tuomo Kingdom questioned the rationale behind an equity drum being beaten by an opposition, when Burutu is entirely a PDP affair.

Biakpara, a pioneer member of the PDP in Burutu, noted that though the constituency is divided to North and South, Burutu remains a single entity and as such, a call for zoning is a call for division.

On who he will support ahead of the 2023 election, Biakpara said;

“When the time comes, I will look at the people vying to represent the Burutu people at the House of Representatives. That is what I will use as a pointer and support the best candidate.

Biakpara further charged the Burutu Credibility Front to “remain indivisible and keep calling for credibility” in Burutu.
