  • A fire accident in Ondo state has claimed the lives of two children.

  • The siblings were reported to have been locked up by their mother before the accident happened.

  • The deceased children bodies have evacuated to the morgue.

A gruesome fire outbreak in Ondo state has caused the death of two siblings in Ondo state.

It was gathered that the mother of the children had locked them inside the house, and stepped out for a moment.

This happened in the Oluwatuyi area of Akure, Ondo state on Wednesday, January 22.

Confirming the incident, an eyewitness said the children, Jelad Oluwaranakinse and Jenson were locked in the house by their mother, identified as Mrs Deborah Oluwaranakinse.

The house reportedly erupted in flames, burning items in it as well as the two boys.

When the fire started, the neighbours around made efforts to put it out and rescue the kids, but their efforts were unsuccessful,” 

“People called the state fire service, but by the time they arrived, things had gone out of hand. The kids had died.” the eyewitness added.

All efforts by neighbors to put out the fire proved abortive, as the two boys got burnt to death.

Their bodies have been evacuated and taken to the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital in Akure.

 

Spokesperson of the state command, Funmilayo Odunlami, while confirming the incident on Thursday, said the police are currently investigating the cause of the fire.

“The two male children left in the room were choked and burnt. One is Jelad Oluwaranakinse, aged five, and the second is Jenson Oluwaranakinse, aged three,” 

 

“Their mother, one Mrs Deborah Oluwaranakinse, locked the two children inside their room and went out to search for food. An investigation has commenced.” the PPRO added

CSP Bello Gusau, is facing investigation for allegedly taking a 15-year-old girl detained at the police station to his house, where she spent the night.

A non-governmental organization, International Human Right Today Initiative (HRTI), filed a complaint with the Katsina State Police Headquarters.
